Anorexia And What Causes It

Eating disorders are not new. Anorexia Nervosa was first formally diagnosed in 1874, and the symptoms have been observed as far back as 300 years ago.(Walsh and Devlin 1) Although the condition has been known for centuries, it seems to be center stage now during the last decade or so.
What is behind Anorexia? Is it inherited? Is Anorexia caused by some type of mental illness, or maybe environmental pressures? Does culture play a role in whether or not someone suffers from Anorexia? These questions are not easily answered,as we know if we have had any family members or close friends who have suffered from Anorexia. It's not as easily diagnosed as the measles or chickenpox, where the doctor knows exactly what the cause is. We will discover that there is no one clearcut cause for Anorexia.
According to Women's Health Weekly one research study collected blood from 200 families where at least two of the siblings were suffering from Anorexia, several of the test results suggest a possible link between Anorexia and a shared suseptability gene found in many of the siblings (10) . We must keep in mind that although this research is promising it is still as of yet incomplete data, which in essence makes it a theory. This by no means suggests that there is not a biological link, but that more research needs to be done.

Albert Camus and existentialism

Existentialism is the individual freedom of choice; in other words man is a conscious subject, rather than a thing. Of the many existentialistic themes, Camus strongly believed in absurdity.
Camus’ opinion is that absurdity lies in the basic discord in the relationship between the human being and the universe. Thus, the human being discovers the absurdity of existence when he correctly perceives the universe.
The absurdity of the human being is in its insecurity, rejections, agony, and also it’s disappointments. In most of Camus’ works the recognition of the absurdity of the human existence is a main theme. For Camus, the absurd is not a negative thing, but a real state of existence. Accepting the perspective that life is absurd is to embrace a true view of life.
The Stranger, is the first work of Camus’ dealing with absurdity. It portrays the main character as an honest, atheist, who lives life as best as he knows how. In the beginning of the novel, the main character Mersault’s mother dies. His mother’s death has no effect on him because he feels death is the end, there is no God in his mind, and because the two were not close.

Biography on Guy de Maupassant

Guy de Maupassant was born on August 5, 1850 at Chateau de Miromesnil in
France. He was a descendent of a very old French family. As a boy, Maupassant
went to school at Yvetot in Normandy, and then attended Lycee at Rouen. During
his childhood and youth in Normandy, he picked up a great deal of experiences
that he later put to use in many of his writings. When Maupassant was eleven
years old, his parents got separated. This was probably the most significant
events in his life in that his mother retained custody of him. His mother was
the sister of a close friend of Flaubert, one of the most famous nineteenth-
century writers. She turned to Flaubert for advice on him. Flaubert began
tutoring him on various subjects, mainly writing. Maupassant's association with
Flaubert brought him into the French literary circles. Even though Maupassant
was often a member of gatherings which included such famous writers such as
Flaubert, Turgenev, Zola, and Daudet, he had little interest at the time for a
career of writing for himself. As an adolescent he was much more interested in
sports than writing, especially rowing.
